Breakdown of the service
The discovery phase focuses on understanding the clients market and their target users. During this
phase the following services will be performed:
- Evaluation of client’s position within their market
- User/Competitor research
At the end of this phase CD will understand both the clients and the user’s needs for the project. CD will
develop the project scope and create a requirements specification document to be signed by the client.
During the creative phase CD will develop the overall message/tone that needs to be delivered through
both the written content and the visual elements of the project.

The website wireframing phase serves as the architectural blueprint of your digital project, stripping away visual distractions like colours and imagery to focus purely on structure and functionality. By creating these low-fidelity skeletons, designers can map out the information architecture and user flow, ensuring that every button and content block is strategically placed to meet business goals. This phase is critical for catching usability issues early, allowing stakeholders to align on the layout and logic before any expensive high-fidelity design or coding begins.
The website mockup phase is where the structural blueprint evolves into a high-fidelity visual representation of the final product. Unlike wireframes, mockups incorporate the brand’s full visual identity—including colour palettes, typography, imagery, and iconography to demonstrate exactly how the site will look to the end user. This stage is vital for establishing brand consistency and emotional resonance, allowing stakeholders to review the aesthetic direction and "look and feel" before the project moves into the development phase. Website prototyping and interaction design transform static mockups into a living, clickable experience that simulates the final product’s behaviour. While mockups show how a site looks, prototyping demonstrates how it works, allowing stakeholders to test the user flow, button transitions, and hover effects in a sandbox environment.

We used the Colouring Department to develop a new website for a research project run jointly by three universities. The Mathematics for Deep Learning programme needed a website that looked fresh and interesting and was easy to navigate in order to explain the quite complex work that we do.
